It’s Only For a Season

I am a big sports fan. For those who know me they know my favorite sport is football. My favorite team is the New York Giants. Every year in early September I get excited because I know the football season is about to begin. There is a sense of anticipation as I look forward to watching my team play and cheering them on to victory.

This year was different because something happened to my team, we couldn’t figure out how to win games. Week 1 comes, we lose. Then we lose in weeks 2,3,4 and 5 before we win a game. This season with all the high expectations was now down the drain. For you non-sports fans out there yes I did say “we lose” even though I wasn’t anywhere near the game except for watching it on TV yet “we lost”. It’s just how sports fans are.

There is something interesting about having a bad season…it’s only 1 season. This terrible football season where we actually ended up winning 3 games mercifully came to an end. Once it was over you know what I did. I forgot about it. After all next season is coming and we actually have the second pick in the draft . This quickly caused me to forget the bad season and helped me to move forward preparing for the next season with hope, excitement and anticipation.

This football season is a mirror of life. You will have great moments, you will have lousy ones but the good news especially for the lousy moments in life is that they only last for a season.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that there is a time and a season for every activity under heaven. A time to be born, a time to die, a time to laugh, a time to mourn, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to be quiet and a time to speak up just to name a few.

Wherever you are, or whatever time it is in your life, remember it will only last for a while. The seasons you go through in life were never designed to be permanent but only temporary as you move from grace to grace, glory to glory and victory to victory. Whether you are in the high season or a very low one learn the lessons you need to learn and get ready because this season will pass and there will be a new one coming.
