The Fight is Real

I was on a flight coming home from Louisiana recently. Since it was an early morning flight, I was able to see the sun rise and it was truly a calming and remarkable sight. As the plane rose and we eventually reached our cruising altitude I took a moment just to look out the window. All I saw were clouds below me, sunshine all around me and it felt like we were the only plane in the sky.

Regardless of how I felt in that moment that was not the reality of what was going on. If you have ever seen an air-traffic-controllers radar you will see exactly how many planes are in the air at any one given time. According to FlightAware on average there are over 9,700 planes in the air all over the world at any given time. These planes are carrying over 1.2 million people. Even though all of these planes were somewhere in the air around me, I couldn’t see them.

This is also true when it comes to spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:12 says we wrestle not against flesh and blood (that’s other people we see) but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (that’s what we don’t see with our physical eyes).

When you pull back the curtain and look at God’s radar there is a slew of spiritual warfare and activity going on all around you. I don’t say this to frighten you but to enlighten you.

As believers we are in a fight, a battle, a war. We are fighting an adversary we can’t see with our physical eyes yet who is very alive and very real. Because we can’t see him it’s easy to lose sight that he exists and you can become like me sitting on a plane feeling like it’s the only plane in the sky.

I simply want to remind you that you do have an enemy, a very strong one, however one you have authority over because of the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within you.

Every day you live. Every time you pray. Every time you worship. Every time you open God’s word you are entering this spiritual arena that you impact through your prayers, your worship and the word of God. These are your weapons and when you use them properly your enemy can’t stand against you.

So be alert today and know your enemy the devil is real he does exist. However, be encouraged because even though the fight is real when you use the weapons God has given you your victory will be real as well and at the end of the battle you will win.
